Rabbi Yoni Birnbaum LLB (Hons) MA is Rabbi of the Hadley Wood Jewish Community, having joined the community in April 2010. He grew up in Kingsbury, London and is an alumnus of the world-renowned Ponovezh Yeshiva in Israel. He received his semicha from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and former Chief Rabbi of Israel Mordechai Eliyahu, as well as completing advanced rabbinical training with the Ner L’Elef Institute in Jerusalem.
He also has a law degree from the Open University, and an MA in Jewish Studies from University College, London, with a particular focus on Jewish history. He is currently studying for a PhD at UCL on the interface between inclusivism and Orthodox Judaism. He lectures on Jewish law and thought at several locations across London and is a member of the Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue and the Associate Faculty of the London School of Jewish Studies.
Rabbi Birnbaum and his wife, Elisheva, have five children, Nechama, Shimi, Tobi, Sara and Ayala and in their spare time they all enjoy exploring the Hadley Wood countryside together.
