Rabbi Nicky Liss

Director of the Centre for Rabbinic Excellence

Rabbi Nicky Liss has been the rabbi of Highgate Synagogue since August 2008 and was appointed in 2022 as the Director of the newly formed Centre for Rabbinic Excellence which provides United Synagogue Rabbis and Rebbetzens with ongoing professional development opportunities.

He served as Chair of RCUS (the Rabbinic Council of the United Synagogue) for five years (2016-2021) and as the Rabbinic lead for the United Synagogue’s Covid response team.

Rabbi Liss is also active in the wider community acting as the Rabbinic Advisor to the Imperial War Museum, the Rabbinic Advisor to the Sir Martin Gilbert Learning Centre, and the School Rabbi for Shalom Noam Primary School.

An avid cricket fan, he plays for his shul’s team, has represented the Archbishop of Canterbury’s First XI and most recently joined the Heaven Help Us Cricket Club which formulated the important Unity Statement that was signed on the pitch during a Test Match at Lord’s in June 2022.

Rabbi Liss read Chemistry at UCL and in 2018 completed both a Master’s degree in Leadership at the UCL Institute of Education and professional mediator training at the London School of Mediation.
