Rabbi Friedman was born in Britain but grew up in Australia. He joined HGSS having been Rabbi of Beth Israel Synagogue in Edmonton, Canada, where he was the spiritual leader for fifeteen years. He was Australia’s youngest Rabbi, when he began his career at Newtown Synagogue in Sydney. Rabbi Friedman has a master’s degree in political science from the University of Alberta and has been studying for a doctorate there in international relations.
Rabbi Friedman is married to Rabbanit Batya Friedman who has an MBA from Alberta and is director of an interfaith housing initiative.
