On Bank Holiday Monday, 30 May 2016, Watford shul member Danielle Gordon and twenty of her friends aged 7 to 13 years, took part in a survival challenge to support the work of West Herts Hospital Community nurses for people in Hertfordshire. The challenge, organised with the help of Tactical Training Events (TTE), included performing orienteering, shelter building and agility tasks in Wendover Woods.

Danielle, 13, was inspired to organise the event with the help of her mum, Helen Gordon, by the care she received when she was suddenly taken ill a year ago. After a stint in Watford General Hospital, Danielle underwent nine weeks’ treatment by West Herts Children's Community Nurses from the West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust. The event was supported by many of her friends at JFS and Yavneh College.

Helen Gordon explains, “This was a very difficult time, but the nurses were all very kind, patient and supported Danielle and our family through the treatment. A year on, Danielle’s condition is under control and will hopefully stay that way by keeping herself active and healthy. But other children aren't as lucky. Danielle decided to raise money for the nurses to buy resources to support children who have to endure much longer term treatment to make it easier for them too.”
