United Synagogue gift to the Jewish Committee for HM Forces

A large congregation, including a number of distinguished representatives from the Armed Forces, attended a service at Bevis Marks Synagogue on the evening of Thursday 15 March, to mark the installation of Rabbi Reuben Livingstone, Rabbi Simon Taylor and Rabbi Ariel Abel into the Royal Army Chaplains’ Department.

The service, which was addressed by Chief Rabbi Mirvis and Rabbi Dr. Abraham Levy, also marked the dedication of two small and portable Torah Scrolls to be used by the Jewish chaplains.

One of these was dedicated in memory of the late Dr. Peter Wagerman, and was gifted to the Jewish Committee of H.M. Forces by the United Synagogue in late 2014.  The scroll, which was previously in use at Barking and Becontree Synagogue, has subsequently been renovated and now carries a mantle of RAF blue and gold.

We are proud to have been associated with this initiative, and with bringing this Torah Scroll back into regular use.
