Sutton & District US yesterday celebrated the induction of Rabbi Shmuli Sagal as minister of the community by Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis. The service was attended by the Mayor of Sutton Cllr Richard Clifton with the Mayoress, Leader of Sutton Council Cllr Ruth Dombey OBE, MP for Carshalton & Wallington Tom Brake, and MP for Sutton & Cheam Paul Scully. Also present in the congregation of some 170 people were Dayan Abraham of the London Beth Din, President of the United Synagogue Stephen Pack, and Vice President of the Board of Deputies Sheila Gewolb. Synagogue Chairman Paul Sarfaty welcomed the Chief Rabbi on his first visit to the most southerly of United Synagogue communities on the border of South London and Surrey. Rabbi Shmuli and Rebbezen Tali Sagal and their daughter Layla bring an abundance of energy and enthusiasm to the community, which this year celebrates its 70th anniversary.
