With the help of our M<itzvah Day 365 volunteers, over 150 volunteers were mobilised to support the homeless, refugees, and those in need Camden and Eastern Europe.

The day started off with a buzzing and an extremely efficient Collectathon in the Shul Hall, with over 60 bin liner bags of clothes donated, sorted and schlepped to a number of beneficiary organisations including; the New Horizon Youth Centre, St Mary’s Church Winter Shelter, Baptist Church Winter Shelter, All Aboard and the Together Plan. Thanks to Ruth and Marcelle for coordinating the collectathon and to all the marshalls, shleppers, sorters and drivers for making it happen! Joining us at the Collectathon were members of the London Central Mosque (Regent’s Park Mosque) as well as Sir Keir Starmer, our local MP and his family. It was special to have all our guests and community members volunteer together.

We had 3 Mitzvah Day Shopping stalls running concurrently at Tesco Englands Lane, Budgens in Beslize Park (with the support of the Royal Free Hospital Volunteers) and the SHY youth team were volunteering at Sainsbury’s 02,  also joined by the Holy Trinity Church youth and the Albanian Moslem community volunteers. Trolley loads, and crate loads of much needed food and toiletries were delivered to the local homeless including Doorstep London, Separated Child (for refugees), Camden Food Bank, the Royal Free Food Bank, the New Horizon Youth Centre, St Mary’s Winter Shelter, and the Holy Trinity Church Winter Shelter. Thank you to all our divers and stall volunteers and of course to all the shoppers!

A huge thank you to all the members of our community who spent time cooking and baking in their kitchens and delivering the soups, pies, cakes, and delicious food to the St Mary’s Church Winter Shelter in Primrose Hill. Rev Marjorie Brown and her congregation welcomed us, and Marjorie is delighted by the support of our community, and for our communities to be joining together in helping those in need in our own neighbourhood.

In the afternoon the incredibly special inter-generational tea, prepared for earlier in the morning by the Year 7 team, who also performed for the guests after the Shul hall had been converted from a collectathon to an afternoon tea house! A huge thank you to Laura, Tali, Rabbi Eli and the Year 7 team for putting on such a great event. And thank you to the volunteer drivers and chauffeurs.

We also had a first this year, for those interested in volunteering at the Royal Free Hopsital, lead by the Head Chaplain Revd David Rushton. And the Cheder was buzzing with activities for each year group and the inter-faith cooking at JW3 as a special experience for those members who were able to attend.

A massive thank you to our photographers Peter Robin and Richard Lipman as well as all other contributors!

And to the whole SH Mitzvah Day team - Daniela, Karen, Lana, Loretta, Laura,  Marcelle, Ruth, Talia, and Adam and Gabs from SHY.

Thank you again to all our volunteers - to everyone who played a part in helping Camden’s homeless, helping refugees, helping those in need in Eastern Europe, and brining cheer to our community.
