Last night, Sunday July 23rd, a unique occasion took place in Sheffield when the community celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Rabbi & Mrs.Golomb’s arrival in Sheffield.

We wanted to show our appreciation of  our Rabbi & Rebbetzen’s contribution to the life of our community which has been so enriched by their continued service over 25 years.

The importance of this event was recognised and much enriched by the presence of Chief Rabbi Mirvis, who came especially from an event in Hale to be with us at the Dinner which we organised to celebrate the occasion. 150 people attended the event with fifty members of Rabbi & Mrs. Golomb’s family and friends, the vice Lord Lieutenant of Yorkshire and his wife, the High Sheriff of South Yorkshire and his wife, The Lord Mayor and consort, the Bishop of Hallam and ninety two members of the Community. We were also so delighted to welcome Dr. Steven Wilson, Chief Executive of The US, who  made a special journey to join in our celebrations.

In his address, the Chief Rabbi commented on the obvious esteem in which Rabbi & Mrs.Golomb are held by the Sheffield Community and the pleasure of being present at such an event where the Rabbi & Rebbetzen live in harmony with their Community.

We were also delighted  to hear from Rebbetzen Chayele Raices, second eldest daughter of the family,  who took the opportunity to remind the community of the wonderful efforts of her mother in supporting her father and of her amazing ability to fill their house with friends, family, students and any Jewish person passing through Sheffield providing a warm, loving environment and much lovely food.

150 guests enjoyed a reception and dinner to celebrate this unique occasion and the United Synagogue Sheffield would particularly like to thank Chief Rabbi Mirvis and Dr. Steven Wilson for finding the time in their very busy schedules to join us in our celebrations.
