ShabbatUK at Watford US

As last year, Watford decided to go with providing a full Shabbat experience for ShabbatUK. We wanted those who were attending to get the full benefit of celebrating and keeping Shabbat in a warm, inclusive and enjoyable environment. Serving all three meals also allowed those who could only attend Friday night or Shabbat day to be involved.

This year we were very honoured to welcome Rabbi Alan Plancey as our guest speaker. He was very warmly received and spoke with just the right balance of humour and insight to entertain those had stayed for the meals. Watford also welcomed its new youth leader Devorah Roselaar (daughter of former minister Rabbi Daniel Roselaar) who really hit the ground running at ShabbatUK with an Oneg Friday night and plenty of entertainment for the kids during the day. We wish her every success during her time at Watford. We also welcomed six Hasmonean Year 11s who brought with them plenty of enthusiasm and ruach. They really helped create a wonderful atmosphere during davening and the meals with lively song and zemirot. It would be a pleasure to have them join us again.

Over the course of Shabbat, in excess of 150 meals, provided by KLBD caterer Jasmin, were served. ShabbatUK in Watford was well prepared for down to the last detail by a small dedicated team who met regularly and worked often at unsociable hours. Our deepest thanks go to them for pulling off a wonderful Shabbat. Our thanks go to all those who attended and helped to create the lovely Shabbat atmosphere. We hope that your involvement in ShabbatUK 2015 has deepened your appreciation for Shabbat and that in some small way at least increased your observance of it.
