Kenton Synagogue members were delighted to host His Honour Judge Michael Simon together with his wife, Hayley Simon, as their guest speakers for Shabbat UK.

HHJ Michael Simon is as a full-time Circuit Judge, sitting at Blackfriars Crown Court, where he deals with serious crime involving jury trials.  In addition, he is a chazan and has delivered shiurim and lectures on a wide variety of Jewish subjects.  Hayley Simon is head of the Jewish Studies Department at Yavneh College in Borehamwood.

HHJ Michael Simon delivered the Shabbat morning drasha, spoke at the Shabbat Kodesh programme after davening and then spoke again during the delicious Shabbat UK luncheon.  The topics covered by HHJ Michael Simon ranged from Shabbat and the sedra, Purim and his experiences within the British legal system.  After the luncheon, Hayley Simon lead a ladies shiur on the importance of Shabbat and this was followed by a general question and answer session lead by HHJ Michael Simon.  The whole Shabbat UK experience in Kenton ended with the community joining together for Havdala.

Everyone in Kenton pronounced the Shabbat UK event a huge success with thought-provoking, interesting speakers, a beautiful meal and a warm and friendly Shabbat atmosphere.  We look forward to Shabbat UK next year!
