We had a wonderful ShabbatUK in Sheffield.

26 members participated in the Thursday afternoon Challah Make including four men and three children. The event was beautifully managed by our Rebbetzen, Faige Rochel Golumb, and her daughter, Channah Broche.

Enough challah was baked to feed the community during the weekend and for the rest of the week.

This year we appointed two scholars in residence who spent the weekend with their wives in Sheffield. We had an amazing Friday evening service which included an excellent sermon given by one of our two scholars, Mr. Bell. This was followed by a grand Kiddush provided by the Synagogue Guild, when everyone enjoyed a feast including smoked salmon, chopped herring, fishballs, latkes and mushroom quichlettes. After the Kiddush there were a number of dinners in private homes when members joined with their friends to continue the celebrations.

On Shabbat we were treated to another excellent sermon given by our second scholar in residence, Rabbi Goodman. The service was followed by a communal lunch when 70 members sat down to enjoy a delicious three course Shabbat lunch.

Lunch was followed by a programme of  four seminars given by Rabbi Goodman, Rebbetzen Goodman, Mr. Bell and Mrs. Bell. The topics ranged widely and were well attended. We were also treated to a brief poetry reading event and an excellent one woman show for ladies only by Mrs. Bell reminding us that Chanukah is just around the corner.

The day ended with a lovely musical Havdalah by our very own Rabbi Golomb. The whole weekend was suffused with a warm and embracing glow that was experienced by everyone who took part and the entire Sheffield US community would like to thank Chief Rabbi Mirvis for instituting this wonderful, spirit renewing event.

We look forward to another great ShabbatUK next year!!!!
