The London Cantorial Singers has just launched a scholarship fund to give Jewish youngsters, who love singing, the opportunity to experience high quality choral singing and to offer the successful candidates professional voice coaching and music training. Candidates must be between 9 to 14 years old and living in the Greater London area.

Choral Scholars will be able to sing as a soloist and in ensemble formations, as part of the London Cantorial Singers, at our concerts and other activities. The Choir performs throughout the year to the Jewish community as a whole and participates in other public events with international and national acclaimed Soloists.

Our performances are often recorded for social media and Choir marketing purposes.

The Choir will offer a high-quality performance experience in a safeguarded environment.

Choral Scholars will be full members of the choir, singing in a fun loving, supportive environment, while strengthening their core skills as singers, improving their sight-reading and building their vocal technique.

A Choral Scholarship is a wonderful way to gain experience of singing at a high standard in a choir that covers a broad repertoire. It is also excellent preparation for any young musician wanting to pursue music further, especially those who may wish to apply for choral awards at university or prepare for professional choral singing.

Auditions will be conducted by Alan Freedman, the Musical Director. Please email director@tlcs.org.uk  for  more information and also to apply for an audition. Applications will be on a “first come first served” basis and should be made by the latest Friday 1st April 2022.

The Sandford family have generously donated to the Scholarship fund in acknowledgement of the help and encouragement given to their son Rafi, our former young soloist, in bringing on his singing abilities throughout the duration of his time in the Choir.

Rafi Sandford says, “I wanted say thank you to the choir that supported me so much and to give back something for the way they helped to develop my singing. We also wanted to help in a small way to assist training future young soloists.”

One of our Patrons Henry Grunwald OBE QC says, “Rafi Sandford has developed so much by working with the choir as a young soloist and this choral scholarship is a wonderful initiative to enable others to do the same."

Our other Patron Rabbi Shisler says, "For any youngster who loves singing this is a wonderful and rare opportunity to train and sing with one of London's leading Jewish choirs. It is a chance to gain skills that will enhance their musical knowledge that they will carry with them throughout their lives."
