Last Sunday members of Richmond United Synagogue voted overwhelmingly in favour of appointing Rabbi Meir Shindler and his wife Rina Shindler as their new rabbinical couple, with 99% of the vote. They will begin their new position early in 2016.

Rabbi Shindler, who has an advanced Yeshiva education and is a graduate from King’s College London, has worked as an Operational Research analyst in London as well as in a variety of communal positions. He previously served as Rabbinic Intern for the United Synagogue and held the position of Living & Learning Rabbi at Chigwell & Hainault United Synagogue before taking up his new position at Richmond.

Rebbetzen Rina Shindler grew up in New York and studied in Israel for four years where she achieved an MSc in Family Counselling. She then moved to London where she was employed as a field-worker for the Jewish Learning Exchange.

Speaking about their latest appointment, Rabbi Shindler commented: “After over 3 happy years at Chigwell we now feel it is time to move on and embrace the challenge of a Senior Rabbinic position. Rina and I are excited to be given the opportunity to lead the Richmond community. We have had the pleasure of spending a Shabbat with them and found it to be a really warm, friendly and inclusive place to be. We look forward to working with their forward-thinking Board to develop the community further.”

A spokesperson for the United Synagogue said: “We are delighted that Rabbi and Rebbetzen Shindler will be joining the Richmond community and we are certain that they will be a great fit. We are sure that the appointment of Rabbi and Rebbetzen Shindler will allow Richmond to develop and continue to be a strong part of the United Synagogue as we grow and progress year on year.”
