The first Mitzvah Day Projects for the newly formed Redbridge United Synagogue were a Collectathon for 'Wrap Up London' and a 'Sunshine for Seniors' afternoon.

Wrap up London:

This was a project whereby we collected coats, anoraks, fleeces, etc for adults and children in need.  This included victims of domestic violence, refugees and immigrants.  The response to our appeal brought in in excess of 120 items and David Langdorf who was at the Synagogue receiving the items was delighted with the result.

Sunshine for Seniors:

This was a project which truly lived up to its title.  Some 10 members of the Synagogue visited the Cranvale Residential Care Home in Buntingbridge Road, Newbury Park and met with some of the 40 residents.  They chatted to them whilst they had their afternoon tea and then played four games of Bingo.  Each of the 10 members of the Synagogue 'adopted' four residents and helped them to check their bingo numbers as they were called out by Gordon Miller who co-ordinated the afternoon.

The staff of Cranvale thanked the Mitzvah Day Team and said how pleased they were to see their residents happily chatting to us all.  The Team thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon and all promised to return again and give much needed 'Sunshine to the Residents at Cranvale'.
