The RCUS recently held its annual dinner for the US rabbinate at the Montcalm Suite with over sixty rabbanim and rebbetsens attending. The rabbanim, collectively, have been learning Tractate Chullin and this Talmud study was completed by Rabbi Z Meir Salasnik who conducted the siyum, honouring the memory of his late father.

Rabbi Baruch Davis of Chigwell & Hainault US, outgoing chairman of the RCUS, paid tribute to Rabbi and Mrs Salasnik for their decades of service to the US rabbinate and highlighted Rabbi Salasnik’s period as a former chairman of the RCUS.

Rabbi Nicky Liss of Highgate US, who recently succeeded Rabbi Davis, assuming the role of acting chairman of the RCUS, presented a set of advanced Torah studies to Rabbi Davis on behalf of the Rabbinical Council, in recognition of his five year term of office. The Chief Rabbi, who was unable to attend, sent a message complimenting the Salasniks’ on many years of service to the rabbinate and wished them well in their imminent retirement to Israel. Rabbi Liss then introduced R’ Menachem Salasnik, eldest son of Rabbi & Rebbetsen Salasnik, who reminisced on his parents many years of spiritual leadership of the Bushey Community.

Steven Wilson, CEO of the United Synagogue, was also a guest at this event. Addressing those present, he thanked the US Rabbis and Rebbetzens for their outstanding work in our communities.  He also expressed appreciation for the work that the RCUS does on behalf of the United Synagogue rabbinate and praised its close working relationship with P’EIR, the rabbinic training and support arm of the US. He took the opportunity to congratulate ten US rebbetsens who have recently completed a six part ‘Supportive Counselling’ course organised by P’EIR – aimed at equipping rebbetsens with some basic skills to make referrals and to function as first responders.
