On 23 December, Northwood United Synagogue held their annual Chanukah candle-lighting ceremony at the offices of Three Rivers District Council. The council chamber was packed with synagogue members as well as over 50 invited guests including the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Robert Voss CBE, numerous councillors, police officers and representatives of local residents’ associations. Candles were lit by Cllr Paula Hiscocks, the Chairman of the council, Gagan Mohindra, the newly-elected MP for South West Hertfordshire in his first public event since winning his seat in the recent General Election. Synagogue members Sherrie Ralton and Karen Golanski also lit candles. The service was led by Rabbi Aron Zerbib and was followed by doughnuts and soft drinks.

Cllr Debbie Morris  - co-organiser of he event with shul chairman, Alan Moss - commented afterwards, “I’m delighted to see that our public Chanukah candle-lighting ceremony continues to go from strength to strength attracting people from across Hertfordshire and Hillingdon of many faiths and also of none. Special thanks are due to the Council of Three River for their hospitality and warm welcome.”
