Northwood at the Double on Mitzvah Day

Northwood United Synagogue got Mitzvah Day off to an early start with an event on Sunday. A team met at the synagogue to create Gift Hampers containing construction toys, activity sets and soft toys. The hampers were handed over to Camp Simcha who will ensure their distribution to Jewish children in hospital over the Chanukah period. There will be a second event on Mitzvah Day itself, 16th November, when the community will be working at the Langdon charity base helping those with special needs to prepare for Chanukah.

Northwood United Synagogue contribution to Mitzvah Day was effectively a double mitzvah.  The first mitzvah was when a team from the Synagogue joined some of the residents at the Langdon Centre in Edgware and helped them to make and then gift wrap cup cakes, decorated biscuits and bowls of hyacinths. The second mitzvah will come because Langdon will now pass these gifts onto the Hope Trust in Watford, a home for those in need. The afternoon was full of laughter, song and just the odd bit of food colouring and mess!

A note from Sonia Muscovitch, the Youth Services Manager:

On behalf of Langdon, a huge big “ thank you”  to you and  all the volunteers from Northwood Synagogue for yesterday’s fabulous Mitzvah Day Event at Langdon.  Everyone had a fantastic time and I know they have gone away with  lovely memories of how they participated in this wonderful event.  We really are very grateful for all the time and effort which went into organising the programme.
