Edgware United carried out a full programme of varying activities on Mitzvah Day.  From old to young participants threw themselves enthusiastically into providing for others.

A group of adults and kids made food in Edgware Shul kitchen for a Barnet homeless shelter - incorporating the chicken soup challenge. Hoping they enjoy their chicken soup with kneidals and lockshen, chilli con carne, green beans in sauce, pineapple upside down cake and oat and raisin biscuits.

20 of the Cheder boys and girls went to “Noah’s Ark ECentre” in Barnet and assisted in emptying approximately 50 black bags of  toys, clothes, shoes and handbags and sorting them into categories  for redistribution to the various Noah’s Ark shops for selling on to raise funds for the Children’s hospice. Rabbi Lister joined them, and the parents who had kindly assisted by driving the children there. Their efforts were refreshed with squash to drink and kosher biscuits to eat.

A number of the members of the Shul’s Youth service went out and became “Selfie Tzadichim”  doing kind and helpful things for a variety of people and marking their efforts by taking “selfie” photographs.

Over the course of the day the Joely Bear Blood donation drive at Edgware Community hospital was also on the Shul’s Mitzvah list.

AJEX parade at the Cenotaph usually coincides with Mitzvah Day and  this year an especially large contingent of men, women and children of all ages decided to attend.  Thus performing a mitzvah by supporting the ever dwindling but proud group of veterans who are still able to participate. One of the young boys who marched wore his great grandfather’s medals (see picture) !  Both of the Shul’s Rabbis attended (see picture) and everyone was very moved by the atmosphere and the ceremony.

Once again EdgwareU has engaged in the Mitzvah day programme in an outstanding way.
