Rabbi Jonathan Hughes is the rabbi at Richmond Synagogue and also the ambassador of University Jewish Chaplaincy. He also serves as the United Synagogue's City Rabbi and delivers Jewish educational programmes in the City of London and the West End.
Rabbi Hughes was born and raised in Reading, Berkshire and, as a teenager, was signed by Swindon Town and Reading Football Club Academies. He went on to gain a law degree from University College London. After studying Talmud for 8 years in Jerusalem at Midrash Shmuel, he was awarded semicha and, in 2011, was appointed Associate Rabbi at Hendon United Synagogue, Raleigh Close before his appointment at Richmond. Rabbi Hughes has written two books on the writings of Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik and Rabbi Elchonon Wasseman respectively and is also a songwriter and guitarist with two albums to his name. He is married to Chana and they have four children.
