The impact of volunteers

At the JVN Volunteering Awards 2016, a few US members were shortlisted for awards for their hard work in US Chesed initiatives. Shortly after the ceremony, Michelle Minsky, Head of US Chesed, received a lovely email from Sharman Berwald, a member of the Northwood Holocaust Memorial Day Events Team, an excerpt of which can be found below:

Thank you for your email. I thought that the evening was wonderful and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I was very grateful for the recognition given to me and the other people who were nominated and the well deserved winners in each category. It was a very memorable evening.

It made me realise that so many Jewish charities cannot work without so many committed and dedicated volunteers.  I was especially impressed with the students who visit care homes and hospitals each Shabbat, or during the week, to give comfort and company to residents who have no visitors. What a wonderful organisation the Jewish Volunteering Network is.  We must all encourage our young people to go help and give back to the community.
