Music-lovers from all over South London flocked to KS&DS on Monday night  for a concert by internationally acclaimed violinist Rabbi Dr Lior Kaminetsky.

Rabbi Dr Lior Kaminetsky with Rabbi Samuel Landau of Kingston, Surbiton & District Synagogue

Known in his I.D.F. days as ‘The Fiddler on the Tank”, this seventh generation Jerusalemite enthralled his audience with a programme entitled “From Bach to Carlebach” taking in on the way his own arrangements of traditional nigunim, Hatikvah, songs from musical theatre, the Beatles’ “Yesterday” and ending his virtuoso performance, played using a 300 year-old Italian violin, with a rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance".

To the delight of the audience, Rabbi Kaminetsky also played “My Yiddish Momme” by special request from Kingston's most senior member Harold Shattock.
