Cockfosters and N Southgate celebrates Freston at Fifty

Back in 1969, some young families and older members living at least a half hour walk from the main CNSS shul decided that the distance was just too much and started a satellite minyan in a church hall in Freston Gardens, Cockfosters. The young families with small children have now become the older members and so the Cockfosters ‘DIY minyan’ thrives, with Friday night, Shabbat morning and Yom Tov services.

Last Shabbat, the members celebrated their Golden Anniversary with a very special service and kiddush, attended by well over 100 members, past and present. Rabbi Epstein spoke eloquently about the role that the minyan plays in the life of CNSS and how many members take leadership roles and help make the regular weekday minyanim whilst Ros Goulden, who led the first children’s services, looked back on her life in the community.

It was a memorable celebration, remembering those who were not able to be there, yet the Cockfosters Minyan members are all looking forward to the future with confidence.
