This week Chigwell & Hainault United Synagogue announced the appointment of Rabbi Rafi and Rebbetzen Chaya Brocha Goodwin as their new Community Development Rabbi and Rebbetzen. They will begin their roles, which are being jointly funded by Tribe, in June.

The couple will be working closely with the Senior Rabbinic Couple, Rabbi Boruch and Rebbetzen Nechama Davis and will build on the fantastic work of previous Assistant Rabbi, Meir Shindler, who moved to become the Rabbi at Richmond US last year.

Talking about the appointment, Chigwell & Hainault Chair, Alan Wohlman, said: “We are delighted to welcome Rabbi and Rebbetzen Goodwin to the Chigwell & Hainault community. They bring with them a wealth of experience in working with young people in the local community as well as the energy and drive to give our young families and youth a fresh opportunity to continue to grow and engage. I look forward to them being an integral part of the Chigwell & Hainault family.”

Rabbi Goodwin added: ''We are very excited to have this amazing opportunity of becoming part of the vibrant growing Chigwell & Hainault community as well as working alongside the senior Rabbi and Rebbetzen in continuing the success and growth in all areas of Jewish life”.

Rabbi Davis commented: “My wife, Nechama, and I are delighted to welcome Rabbi and Rebbetzen Goodwin to the Chigwell US community. We look forward to working with them to further the spiritual growth of our members and continue to build an active and Jewishly-inspired community.”

Rabbi Goodwin attended Leeds Grammar School before studying Law and German at Birmingham University. After spending several years at Yeshiva, Rabbi Goodwin received Semicha in 2014 from former Chief Rabbi of Israel and current Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau Before joining Chigwell US Rabbi Goodwin was Director of Services and Young Couples at Barkingside Chabad.

Rebbetzen Goodwin grew up in Hendon, attending Beth Jacob Grammar School before moving to Israel. She has learnt in seminaries in Italy and America and was a secondary school teacher before becoming a community Rebbetzen.
