The joint was jumpin’ when a large crowd of members and friends were treated to a brilliant performance by the Surrey Hills Big Band at Kingston, Surbiton & District Synagogue's Cheese and Wine Extravaganza on Sunday.

Among the Big Band’s personnel are KS&DS members Sophie Dodd (bandleader and alto sax), her sister Amy Dodd (trumpet and flugelhorn) and their father Howard Dodd (trombone).

Featuring their extensive repertoire, including compositions by Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones and Booker T, the Big Band were given a hugely enthusiastic reception and, by way of encore, reprised their lively version of “Hava Nagila” bringing the audience to its feet. The evening was organised and catered by KS&DS Ladies’ Guild.
