The latest zoomed ‘Jewish Culture South of The River’ event organised by Rev Cantor David Rome - Minister of the Catford & Bromley United Synagogue - featured the incredibly entertaining and engaging Elkan Levy, past President of the United Synagogue. His talk entitled ‘Rabbis, Rothschilds and Rogues’ explored some fascinating Anglo-Jewish historical episodes, anecdotes and facts, which included the relationship between the British Jews and Oliver Cromwell. One attendee said that the return of the Jews is a salient point, and it is so interesting that the Edward the First Expulsion Order actually had no basis in Law.  And Hoorah for the Unbiased 17th Century English Judiciary, says he!!

This latest event attracted over 140 participants from all corners south of the Thames - and beyond. It was jointly sponsored by Professor Lady Judith Freedman and Gerald Rose (Senior Warden of Catford Synagogue) in memory of their loved ones. The money was donated to the British Friends of Shaare Tzedek hospital, a charity very close to Elkan’s heart.

Other recent successful events have included a sell-out 'in conversation with Rev Rome & Lord Michael Grade'.
