Last Shabbat Vayikra, Catford and Bromley United Synagogue - South East London's only Orthodox Synagogue - held a special service in honour of their member, Lianne Segal, who had just completed her term of office as Mayoress of Lewisham - the first Jewish Person to have held that position.

At the service - where over 100 people attended - were the Current Mayor, Damien Egan, and the past Mayor,  Sir Steven Bullock, who is now one of her Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants, and also Janet Daby MP, Vicky Foxcroft MP, the Chairman and several Councillors of the London Borough of Lewisham. The Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis sent a personal letter to Mrs Segal, which the Community had specially framed for her.

Due to the circumstaces of the tragedy in New Zealand we also had special prayers for those murdered and injured and our non Jewish guests were very moved by this part of our service.

Can I take this oppurtunity to inform anyone who knows of friends or relations who live South of the River and might not have the oppurtunity to attend a Seder, that we will be having a Communal Seder on 1st night  Friday 19th April.
