Bushey United Synagogue recently took 22 families, comprising over 100 people, on a weekend away to Daventry.

The group spent the weekend at Hellidon Lakes Golf & Spa Hotel, participating in a programme of sessions, discussions and activities for parents and children. The weekend began with a family friendly Kabbalat Shabbat service, and concluded with a musical Havdalah.

The children and youth programmes which were run throughout the weekend reflected the theme, which was ‘roots’.

This was Bushey’s first weekend away for young families, and Rabbi Nick Kett, the community’s assistant Rabbi, said, “There was such a strong feeling of community, and it was a very special weekend. The young families are the future of our community, and it was such a pleasure to see children and grown-ups alike, enjoying a wonderful Shabbat together.”

Amy Mendelsson, an 8 year old participant of the weekend, said, “It was the best weekend. I loved musical Havdalah and nerf wars the best, and the madrichim were really lovely and we played fun games.”
