Rabbi Alex Chapper, Senior Rabbi of Borehamwood & Elstree United Synagogue, has replaced the mezuzot on the homes of two families in Borehamwood after they were vandalised in what local police have called ‘racially motivated crimes’. One household’s scroll and its encasing mezuzah were destroyed, and another household’s mezuzah was reported missing on the same day.

Although not members of Rabbi Chapper’s community, he reached out to the Martine Stone and Suzie Wilson having heard what had happened to their homes.

Martine Stone said: “After experiencing the shock of my mezuzah being destroyed last week, I was heartened by the loving support of the local Jewish community, and indeed the greater Borehamwood community at large Rabbi Chapper has been incredible. He did not know my neighbour Suzie Wilson nor myself, yet made efforts to seek us out, providing pastoral support and care. The Rabbi replaced our mezuzot yesterday, for which we are extremely grateful.”

Rabbi Alex Chapper said: “Having seen how distressed the families were when their mezuzot was vandalised, I was delighted to be able to provide them with a replacement and put it up for them.”
