"ISSUES OF THE DAY" AT RCUS CONFERENCE

The Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue (RCUS) held its thirteenth annual conference last week at the Shendish Manor Hotel, Herts. The conference took as its theme: "Issues of the Day" and featured an inspirational key-note address by the Chief Rabbi, Sir Jonathan Sacks and contributions from Dayanim of the London Beth Din and from Rabbi Yehoshua Hartman and Dr Anthony Julius.

A range of contemporary issues were discussed including the effects of the credit crunch, the roots of marital conflict, anti-semitism, organ donation and global warming. As part of the RCUS' ongoing commitment to professional development, the conference was also host to scholar-in-residence, Rabbi Doniel Frank of Spring Valley, NY who is a highly respected family therapist and relationship counsellor. At dinner, some 80 participants were addressed by Judge Martyn Zeidman QC.

The conference was organised by Rabbi Dr Julian Shindler (Executive Director, RCUS). Rabbi Yitzchok Schochet, Chairman of the RCUS said "The high quality of the formal sessions combined with the opportunities for informal networking - for both Rabbis and Rebbetsens - has, once again, proven to be a formula for success."
