US APPOINTS NEW CHIEF EXEC

The United Synagogue is delighted to announce the appointment of Jeremy Jacobs to the position of Chief Executive. Jeremy, who was Treasurer of the US for six years before becoming Chairman of TRIBE in 2003, is due to take up the new position in October.

Jeremy is a chartered accountant by profession with over 30 years experience, both in a major UK accountancy firm and in his own successful practice. He is a member and was an honorary officer of Belmont United Synagogue.

On his appointment, Jeremy Jacobs commented: "I am extremely honoured and proud to have been appointed Chief Executive of the United Synagogue as my family have worked for the US since the 1870's and I am fulfilling both a tradition and duty. I am totally committed to the vision of the US, of a modern and united family of communities connected to vibrant Jewish life and Torah values. My role will involve forging closer links between the communities, their lay leaders and the centre by working with our excellent team of professional staff to provide the highest quality of service to our communities.

“One aspect of the position I am most looking forward to is working with our team of highly motivated and qualified Rabbis. Our religious leaders are the souls of our communities and we have the responsibility of ensuring they are properly supported and developed."

Simon Hochhauser, President of the United Synagogue, commented: “We are delighted to appoint a Chief Executive with a comprehensive understanding of our organisation and such a passion for the services we provide to our communities. We have an exciting and ambitious programme ahead of us and Jeremy is ideally suited to it.

I would like to thank Stuart Taylor for the remarkable work he has done as Interim Chief Executive. He has earned the respect and gratitude of our whole Community and its professional staff for the way that he has carried out his task.”
