CHAMPIONS OF CHANGE RECEIVE EXPERT LEADERSHIP BRIEFING
FROM CHIEF RABBI AS 1ST YEAR CONCLUDES
Participants of the United Synagogue Community Division’s Champions of Change leadership programme attended a “Day Retreat” with the Chief Rabbi, Sir Jonathan Sacks, on Sunday 18 May as the first year of the project drew to a close. They were joined on the day by US Trustees, representatives from sponsors the Samuel Sebba Trust, UJIA and Giles van Colle memorial fund, and many of their family and friends. The event took place at Sopwell House Hotel in St. Albans and was its first kosher catered event.
During the Chief Rabbi’s session with the Champions, he discussed the role and responsibilities of leadership which was followed by an open question and answer session. Later in the day, the US President, Dr. Simon Hochhauser, reviewed the year’s achievements along with participant Daniel Soloway who gave a Champions perspective of the first year.
The Champions will continue their liaison with the US by undertaking projects in areas such as Rabbinic recruitment and retention, and the role of women as lay leaders within the US.
Dr. Simon Hochhauser said ‘The participants on Champions of Change are innate innovators and an exciting group of people. We will give them our full support to ensure the success of their projects.’
Samuel Klein, Director of the 'Champions of Change' Programme said: "New ideas are the lifeblood of our community. We have invested in ten exceptional individuals who have already exhibited strong leadership qualities in the Jewish community and have provided them with the support and opportunities they need to make a difference to their local community and to the United Synagogue as an organisation. We hope that this exciting and dynamic project will have a continued significant impact on the future of the United Synagogue".
