TRIBE POLAND TRIP HOSTS NEWLY-WEDS IN KRAKOW
This week participants in the Tribe Community (TCM) trip to Poland stepped in to help a couple who wed in Krakow.
20 TCM members participated in the 4 day trip led by Rabbi David Mason, an expert in Eastern European Jewry. They hosted a Sheva Brachot meal in Krakow on Saturday night for David and Maria Szychowski who married last week in the World Jewish Relief Community Centre in Krakow. The couple who were born and bred in Krakow are planning on making aliyah in the next few months.
Commenting Rabbi David Mason said: “It has been really special to have the opportunity to contribute to this couple’s wedding celebrations. This added a wonderful extra dimension to our Poland experience. We wish them well on their forthcoming aliyah.
“These 20 Tribe Community members have been an amazing group to take to Poland. Tribe believes that these trips are life-changing and an important part of living Judaism.”
The Tribe trip started in Krakow with a tour of the Galicia Museum, a visit to the Remah cemetery and an inspiring Shabbat experience. Shabbat concluded with a havdalah service in the square outside the old synagogue of Krakow. This was followed by a Klesmer concert at the Galicia museum. During the trip the participants also visited Auschwitz Birkenau and Warsaw.
Commenting on the experience Ben Grossman, TCM member from Belmont United Synagogue said: “Seeing first-hand the reality of the concentration camps really made the Holocaust hit home. Visiting the Warsaw ghetto and memorial make you feel a personal responsibility for continuing the chain of Jewish Tradition, for which all these people lost their lives. These four days have been both emotional and inspiring at the same time.”
