PROJECT CHESED REACHES OUT TO COMMUNITIES AT PESACH
Nearly 6000 boxes of Rakusens matzah will be distributed to elderly and isolated members of the community as part of the United Synagogue's Project Chesed this Pesach. Project Chesed, a joint initiative between the US and the London School of Jewish Studies, will reach out to those members of the community who are either unable to afford the additional expenses of the Pesach period or do not have the opportunity to participate in a meaningful Pesach experience.
The United Synagogue will be distributing over 400 Pesach food parcels across 27 US communities. In addition, subsidised places are being offered across all US communities to those unable to afford the full cost of attending a community seder.
Project Chesed are also running their 'Chametz for the Homeless' campaign this year, where each community will be linked up with their local homeless shelter to ensure that when people start clearing out chametz in their home, it goes to a needy cause.
The US would like to thank Just Kosher, Snowcrest, Gilberts, Jason Millan, Goldstein Salmon, Lewco-Pak, Kelmans and Osem who have all generously donated items for the Pesach parcels.
Candice Woolfson, Director of Project Chesed said:
"Project Chesed teaches about recognising the Jewish responsibility to help our fellow human beings, encourages acts of kindness and inspires our community to make a difference.
At Pesach we work closely with our US Community Care groups whose volunteers deliver the food parcels and together we are reaching out to hundreds of members in need across the United Synagogue family. We are very grateful to our generous donors without whom much of our work would not be possible."
