TRIBE CONTESTANTS BATTLE FOR A PLACE IN 'THE AMBASSADOR FINAL'

10 Year 13 students have battled through to the fifth and final task of the 2008 Tribe's ambassador programme, hoping to be one of the eight successful applicants to win an educational trip to Israel.

The apprentice style programme, based on the original Israeli TV show 'The Ambassador' is an intensive four month course of Israel advocacy training, designed to prepare students for the realities of campus life in the UK. Now into its fourth year, The Ambassador programme in partnership with JNF was created as a response to the rise in anti-semitism and anti-Israel sentiment on campuses in the UK.

Last week the remaining contestants went to speak at the House of Lords and were given rigorous training on debating and presentation skills by a political analyst to the Israeli Government before presenting their case in front of an audience including Lord Janner of Braunstone.

The final task will take place at the end of January and the winners will get a prestigious tour of Israel in February, visiting senior diplomats and politicians, seeing security checkpoints and government offices, as well as the chance to work closely with the Israeli Embassy here in the UK. The participants will also have the opportunity to meet Jews, Arabs, Christians and other people from all sides of the political and cultural spectrum of Israeli society.

Avi Friedmann, Tribe Teens Executive, commented: "The programme at the House of Lords was a fantastic opportunity for the remaining contestants to further develop and demonstrate their skills and meet with a great advocate for British Jewry and Israel. All of the participants were all outstanding and I wish them all every success in the final."

Participant Simon Marks said: "The Ambassador was a great experience to speak in the House of Lords and I am excited by the opportunity to represent Israel in this way. Thank you to Tribe and JNF for this incredible opportunity."
