US SEND DELEGATION TO CHICAGO FOR KELLOGG MANAGEMENT EDUCATION SEMINAR
London, 11th December 2008
A United Synagogue delegation has spent the past week in America as part of the Kellogg Management Education for Jewish Leaders (KJL) at Northwestern University, Chicago.
Four US representatives attended the five day seminar and were part of the 55 participants including Rabbis, Synagogue Executive Directors, leaders of Rabbinic and Synagogue organisations, Synagogue board members and other Jewish leaders to learn state-of-the-art professional leadership and management skills. The attendees came from across the US, UK and Canada.
The seminar focused on topics including Marketing and Leadership, Synagogue Governance, Fundraising, Implementing Change, Financial Management, Conflict Resolution and Negotiation Skills, and Crisis Management.
The Kellogg School of Management was established in 1908 and is considered one of the world's most prestigious graduate Business Schools.
The UK team was headed by Jeremy Jacobs, Chief Executive of the United Synagogue and included Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Executive Director Tribe and Community Rabbi for Stanmore Synagogue, Rabbi Naftali Brawer, Rabbi of Borehamwood and Elstree Synagogue and Rabbi Jason Kleiman, Rabbi of Bet Hamedrash Hagadol Synagogue, Leeds.
Founder and Director of the Kellogg programme, Dinah Jacobs commented: "In heading up their organisations, Jewish leaders are faced with an increasingly challenging and complex set of responsibilities. Management Education for Jewish Leaders has been established to enable these leaders to acquire and apply cutting edge management skills. This course enables them to more effectively and efficiently head up their organizations and achieve their goals."
Rabbi Shaw said "The conference was very informative and it was enlightening to learn from some of the best business minds in the USA, we hope to keep up our contacts with the Kellogs Business School to help us develop what were learnt for the benefit of our United Synagogue Communities."
