US HOLDS VALEDICTORY SERVICE FOR HOUNSLOW SYNAGOGUE

Hounslow, Heathrow and District Affiliated Synagogue held its Valedictory Service yesterday (Sunday 7 December) 60 years after its establishment in 1948.

The service, led by Rev. Alan Greenbat who had been a visiting Minister at the synagogue spoke about the history of the community and the synagogue to 150 people who attended the service including both current and former members.

The Shul used to run a cheder, youth club, study group and Shul journal and in 1999 it celebrated its 50th anniversary with a service attended by the Chief Rabbi.

Attendees included Treasurer of the United Synagogue Geoffrey Hartnell, the immediate past Chief Executive of the United Synagogue, Mr. Stuart Taylor, senior representatives of the local Police force and a number of the previous Shul ministers including Bernard Koshland and Aubrey Ross.

Treasurer of the United Synagogue, Geoff Hartnell commented, "This community sprung to live through the foresight of Dr Sandler, who helped found a thriving vibrant community out of the dark clouds of war torn London. The community's Hebrew classes once boasted over 50 children and the community benefited from the distinguished service of several ministers many of whom I am delighted to welcome this afternoon. We thank you for your contribution towards the development of a vibrant modern orthodoxy and wish you strength in all your undertakings and from the stones that you scatter may they form a tree of life."
