US To Deliver Honey Cakes For A Sweet New Year

PRESS RELEASE

US TO DELIVER HONEY CAKES FOR A SWEET NEW YEAR

Over one thousand honey cakes will be distributed by United Synagogue communities this month as Project Chesed encourages them to remember the elderly and isolated people in their community around Rosh Hashanah. The US Community Cares groups, established in each synagogue, will be visiting members of their community to wish them a Shana Tova and give them the traditional sweet cake as a gift and a New Year card.

The scheme, which was set up last year to enhance the Rosh Hashanah festival for those members who would otherwise not be able to attend synagogue, now has an impressive 37 United Synagogue communities on board with hundreds of members joining to support elderly members of their community for the New Year.

Some of the communities involved include Borehamwood, Cockfosters, Hampstead, Ilford, Pinner and Radlett.

Candice Woolfson, Project Chesed's Director at the United Synagogue, commented:
"We are delighted by the overwhelming response we have had from all the communities to be a part of this wonderful initiative. Rosh Hashanah is not always a happy and sweet time for everyone but with so many of the US Community Cares groups involved, we hope that it will enhance many people's holiday and thank you to everyone who is taking part."
