GAP YEAR STUDENTS PREPARE FOR UNI WITH TRIBE ISRAEL
Over 170 students from 20 different gap year schemes in Israel attended TRIBE’s end of year event, “Closing the Gap” on Monday at the King Solomon Hotel, Jerusalem. The event prepared students for campus life back in the UK and provided tips on how to make the most of their knowledge and experiences from their time in Israel. The evening included sessions by the Tribe Israel Rabbi, Gideon Sylvester, Jessica Truman, Chair of UJS and Rabbi Yoni Sherizen, Chief Executive of University Jewish Chaplaincy, who presented a ‘Campus Survival Guide’.
During dinner, the students were addressed by Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Tribe Executive Director, who encouraged students to get fully involved in Jewish student life on their return to the UK. There was also a video presentation showing highlights from several gap year schemes and Tribe Israel events.
The event was organised by Tribe in partnership with: University Jewish Chaplaincy, UJS, CST and Phone and Learn.
Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Tribe Executive Director said: “The evening allowed Tribe to bring together young Jews from across the religious spectrum and give them the forum to prepare for campus life. I hope that the students who attended the event will become fully engaged on campus with Tribe, UJS, their local J-soc and their chaplaincy and ultimately, their United Synagogue Community.”
Julian Gertner, Bnei Akiva Hachshara, said: “Tribe Israel's 'Closing the Gap' event gave me a real insight into life on campus. Tribe had thought of everything - from seating us together with those going to the same university, to introducing us to UJS, Jewish Chaplaincy and the CST - to give us the confidence to embrace the university life ahead of us."
