ILFORD BURIAL OFFICE CLOSES AS RESEARCH SHOWS 90% OF US FUNERALS ARRANGED BY PHONE
Ilford Burial Office has closed following research undertaken by the United Synagogue which indicated that 90% of funerals are now arranged over the phone. With people no longer required to come into a burial office, all funeral arrangements will now be made from the Burial Society’s central office located at Bushey Cemetery.
Should bereaved members need to present any items to the Burial Office, they can be delivered to the Ilford Synagogue Office and thus there will be no inconvenience to any member of the local community.
Melvyn Hartog, Head of Burial at the United Synagogue, commented: “I am immensely grateful to Ilford’s staff for the professionalism and help they gave to families that came into contact with them. However, with the large majority of people now organising funerals over the phone, we cannot justify the costs of keeping an office open in Ilford when burial staff can answer the phone from one location which can be used for all of our members. The majority of bereaved families appreciate this as it can be inconvenient to come down to a particular office.
With all matters co-ordinated through our Bushey office on the new phone number 020 8950 7767, all of our members can expect the high quality of service and professionalism that they have become accustomed to from the Burial Society.”
