COMMUNITY CONSULTATION ON GOLDERS GREEN SYNAGOGUE
Members of Golders Green Synagogue have attended a community consultation to discuss the future of the synagogue on Dunstan Road. The synagogue’s listing by English Heritage in 2007 has restricted the community in terms of what renovations can take place. The current buildings no longer suit the needs of the community in their current condition and configuration and the purpose of the meeting was to engage members of the community in discussing proposals for the future of the shul building.
Various proposals were presented at the consultation including the possibility of selling the main building and using the proceeds to help develop a purpose built synagogue and communal facility on the land at the rear of the site; selling the land at the rear of the site and using the proceeds towards refashioning the main building into a communal facility; and selling the whole site and working with the purchaser to provide appropriate facilities on the Dunstan Road site.
Jacqui Zinkin, Golders Green’s Chairman commented: “The community consultation proved extremely fruitful and we are investigating a number of the ideas presented by our members. Golders Green is a dynamic community and we hope to find a solution which will enhance the development of our community and respond to its needs for many years to come.”
