KING SOLOMON’S TRIBE AMBASSADOR TRIUMPH
Eleven students from King Solomon High School have battled it out to be crowned Tribe Ambassadors at the competition’s final last Thursday (6th December). The competition, supported by JNF, BICOM and UJS, followed an intensive course of advocacy training designed to prepare students to promote Israel on campuses in the UK. The winners competed against 200 other students from JFS and King Solomon during the course of the ten-week competition.
Students competed in a range of tasks which included a mock debate in the House of Lords and interviews with university students to explore opinions about Israel. The aim of the programme is to help students promote Israel on campuses and to dispel common misconceptions about the country. The winners were chosen by their peers and a panel of judges which included representatives from BICOM, JNF, United Synagogue and Tribe.
In the final, participants from both schools competed to present the best pitch for an Israel advocacy programme that will be rolled out nationwide in honour of Israel’s 60th birthday.
In February, the winners will embark on a week-long trip to Israel, where they will meet with representatives from the Israeli government, the media and Israeli advocacy organisations. The group will be touring Israel, visiting important historical sites, as well as volunteering with various Israeli charities.
Lorna Fitzsimmons, Chief Executive of BICOM commented: “Congratulations to both the organisers and participants in this year’s Ambassador final. We have a collective responsibility to invest in future generations, to ensure that we continue to produce effective, passionate advocates for Israel. I would not be where I am today, had it not been for such advocates embracing me twenty years ago on the university campus.”
David Dobrin, from the winning King Solomon team said: “I'm really proud of all the effort our team put into this competition, it has been an amazing experience and now we are looking forward to going to Israel.”
Charlotte Klein, Tribe Programme and Leadership Director added: “The quality of the presentations shows the culmination of all the hard work the students have put into the programme over this term. Their next challenge is to continue their commitment to Israel as advocates on campus.”
