SWEET NEW YEAR FOR UNITED SYNAGOGUE’S CHESED PROJECT
United Synagogue communities will be enjoying an even sweeter new year with over 1000 free honey cakes being distributed to isolated, elderly or unwell members of the US. The Community Development Group’s chesed project also includes Rosh Hashanah cards being sent, and a phone round to wish elderly members of the community a very happy new year.
Thirty-three synagogues will be participating in this year’s social action project which will enable them to keep in touch with the more isolated members of the United Synagogue family.
Candice Woolfson, social action co-ordinator said: “The idea of the project is to be in touch, to visit people who are not regularly seen and to put a smile on people’s faces. At this time of year, it is important for our communities to reach out and touch members who they do not often see and who may be unable to go to shul over the festive period. In this way, all members can have a happy and meaningful new year.
“We are very grateful to all our volunteers without whom this project would not be possible.”
