50 Tribe Members Participate In Inspiring Poland Trip

50 TRIBE MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN INSPIRING POLAND TRIP

50 year 12 students participated in an inspiring five day Tribe ‘Learn 2 Lead’ programme in Poland this week, to learn about the Holocaust – remembering the past to build the future. The trip was led by Tribe Executive Director, Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Rabbi Benji Landau, Assistant Rabbi at Stanmore and Canons Park United Synagogue and Avi Freidmann, Tribe’s Programmes Manager.

Upon arrival in Warsaw, the first part of the programme was a visit to the historic Nozic Synagogue, the only pre-war Synagogue to survive through the Holocaust followed by a trip to the Warsaw Ghetto Memorial and Jewish Cemetery. They also visited Majdanek and Lizhensk.

Later in the week participants visited both Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II Birkenau where they took part in an emotional Shacharit prayer service on the train tracks as well as reflecting on the tragic history of the sites.

Rabbi Shaw and Rabbi Landau led an uplifting Kabbalat Shabbat service and Oneg Shabbat during which the students discussed their experiences of the trip.

Shabbat morning was spent in the Kupa Synaogogue where the group met members of the local Jewish community. This was followed by a walking tour around Kaziemeirz. After Havdalah the participants toured the historical Galicia Jewish Museum.

Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Tribe Executive Director commented on the programme:

“It has been a privilege to teach our Tribe members about such an important event from both a religious and historical perspective. It has been incredible to see the response of the participants and I look forward to developing our Learn 2 Lead programme even further.”

Participant Mia Bernstein from Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls said:

“The Tribe trip was truly inspiring and I really hope as a result to change a few things in my life to get more connected to Judaism. It was such an amazing experience.”
