TRIBE EDGWARE CELEBRATES HACHNOSAS SEFER TORAH
The Menucha V'Simcha (MVS) community (the Tribe supported minyan at Edgware United Synagogue), gathered together on Chol Hamoed Succos to celebrate an unforgettable Hachnosas Sefer Torah ceremony in Edgware.
Around 85 people joined the procession which included a number of local Rabbonim including Rabbi Godlwesky, Rabbi Schneebalg and Rabbi Roberts, from the area as well as MVS alumni and current members of the minyan. Rabbi Lister and Rabbi Zeidman of Edgware United Synagogue offered divrei torah as did Rabbi Bruce, a previous Rabbi of MVS.
The evening included Hakafos, dancing, singing and a procession of all the shul's Sifrei Torah. The MVS minyan had managed to raise over two and half thousand pounds in order to refurbish a sefer torah from an old United Synagogue which has since closed.
Eli Schlagman, who was Chair of MVS when the project began commented,
“This celebration is truly a testament to the strength of our community. We joined together to raise the money for the refurbishment of this beautiful Sefer Torah following our Rosh Hashana Appeal in 2010 and a year later we have achieved our goal. We are extremely grateful to everyone who supported us both at Tribe and Edgware United Synagogue.”
