TRIBE RESIDENTIAL SUMMER CAMP HEADS ABROAD FOR SHABBAT
After ten days of exciting programmes and activities, kids participating in Tribe’s Camp Dan, aged 14 and 15, departed from their camp in High Wycombe for the second phase of their Summer programme, an action packed weekend abroad in Holland and Belgium.
Leaving the UK early on the Thursday, the participants arrived in Amsterdam and made their way to the Anne Frank Museum where they learnt about the tragic but inspiring story of Anne Frank. In the afternoon, Tribe organised a boat ride across the River Amstel before taking a coach to Antwerp in Belgium where Camp Dan was based for the weekend.
The Tribe group then spent Friday sightseeing in Antwerp and in the afternoon took part in a special Chesed fundraising project. Split into groups, each team was asked to think of different ways to raise money for charity. One team used Facebook to encourage their friends and family back in the UK to donate online whilst the project was in progress. Other groups went into local shops and encouraged shopkeepers and shoppers to donate.
The weekend abroad ended on a spectacular high with a day long outing to the 6 Flags theme park where the thrill seeking participants were able to experience some of the most terrifying rollercoasters in Europe. Following this, the group enjoyed a huge banquet where the participants sat together and spoke about their highlights and experiences of Tribe Camp 2011.
Tribe’s Camp Yosef, for those aged 12 and 13, who were permanently based at High Wycombe, were joined by participants from Tribe’s Camp Gad, for kids aged 10 and 11, who had been on Tribe day Summer Schemes. This was a great opportunity for the younger Tribe members to experience Tribe Summer Camp and to enjoy Shabbat away with their friends.
Sophie Helman, of Cockfosters and N. Southgate United Synagogue, said:
"I really enjoyed Tribe Summer Camp and the weekend in Holland and Belgium was an amazing experience, especially the visit to the prepaid Zoo on Shabbat! I can’t wait until next year!”
Josh Sagal, Tribe Project Executive commented:
“We were really thrilled with the success of the Tribe Camps this year. The kids had a great time and were able to learn something along way. Our madrichim also did a fantastic job engaging with and inspiring the participants – they must all be exhausted but we’re looking forward to welcoming even more participants next year!”
