The Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue (RCUS) held its AGM and triennial election of officers this week and appointed Rabbi Baruch Davis of Chigwell & Hainault United Synagogue as new chairman to succeed Rabbi Yitzchak Schochet.
The results of the other elected posts were as follows: Vice Chairmen - Rabbi David Lister and Rabbi Nissan Wilson; Hon. Treasurer – Rabbi David Mason; Hon. Secretary - Rabbi Yehuda Black; Committee Members: Rabbis H Belovski, Y Fine, P Hackenbroch, B Lerer, N Liss and H Vogel. The three most recent past chairmen – Rabbis M Ginsbury, M Salasnik and Y Schochet will also serve in an ex-officio capacity.
After the AGM and election, Rabbi Davis paid tribute to the hard work of his predecessor and outgoing committee and was pleased to note that the incoming executive and committee included a number of newer recruits to the US Rabbinate.
Observing the many changes at the US in recent years – especially with developments at Tribe, the new Living & Learning Department and Chesed Department, Rabbi Davis said; “The RCUS looks forward to continue working with the team at the Centre and combining our talents to achieve the best for the United Synagogue in the coming years.”
New Co-Vice Chairman Rabbi Nissan Wilson of Clayhall United Synagogue commented; "I am delighted that the rabbinate has elected a fantastic executive and committee. As Vice Chair I feel privileged to be working with Rabbi Baruch Davis and am confident that with his dynamic leadership the committee will achieve great things. I look forward to seeing the RCUS working together with our partners in the local communities and centrally to each bring out the best in each other."
Co-Vice Chairman Rabbi David Lister of Edgware United Synagogue said; “I am excited to have this opportunity to work with Rabbi Davis and the rest of the RCUS. We are looking forward to creating a good working relationship with the incoming new president of the United Synagogue and to build on previous successes as we develop a vision for the future.”
