PROJECT CHESED WINS NHS AWARD FOR BLOOD DRIVE!
The United Synagogue’s Project Chesed has won one of the first NHS Blood and Transport Supporter Loyalty Awards in recognition of the continued support from its volunteers who have donated at blood sessions.
Director of US Chesed, Candice Woolfson, who picked up the award at the ceremony held at the Kensington Hotel, launched the Project Chesed Blood Donation Campaign in 2009. Since then, over 1,000 people have donated blood 3,000 times across a number of US communities.
The NHS has launched the awards to recognise and reward the organisations and individuals with whom they have developed good relationships with and whose work has resulted in positive outcomes for the NHS Blood and Transplant Department.
Andy Byrne, Donor Relations Coordinator at the NHS said;
“The NHS would like to recognise the support of the United Synagogue and in particular that of Candice Woolfson for her commitment and dedication in inspiring members of the Jewish community to come forward as blood donors, making a very tangible difference to recipients’ lives.”
Upon receiving the award, Director of US Chesed, Candice Woolfson said;
“I am delighted and honoured to accept this award on behalf of the United Synagogue. This would not have been possible without the support from the hundreds of members of the Jewish community who have rolled up their sleeves and donated blood on a regular basis over these last few years. I dedicate this award to our blood donors with my sincere thanks to them for supporting this campaign and saving lives by giving blood.”
Project Chesed was nominated by Shilpa Patel, Area Donor Relations Manager for North London who said;
"We are extremely grateful for Candice's support and that of Project Chesed and very much hope to build upon this relationship in the future."

EDITORS’ NOTES: -
Since the launch of the Project Chesed Blood Donation Campaign in 2009, over 2500 units of blood have been collected and in almost all cases have saved lives. The donated blood helps a large number of people including cancer patients; people living with heart, stomach and bowel disease; trauma and accident victims, babies and pregnant women. According to the NHS one blood donation can help save the lives of up to three people which highlight the huge impact that the Jewish community has made.
