FIRST MINI GAP YEAR ALTERNATIVE IN ISRAEL IS LAUNCHED

A coalition of mainstream Orthodox British Jewish organisations have launched Mini Gap, an exciting opportunity for students in year 13 and first year University who did not take a gap year to experience an intense and stimulating 10 weeks in Israel. Created by Tribe, University Jewish Chaplaincy, Project Chesed and Aish, Mini Gap offers the highlights of a gap year in a shorter time period between July and September.

Participants will be based in Jerusalem and gain a real taste of independent living by sharing an apartment with friends in this Holy City. The students will tour the historical and important sites of Israel including the Western Wall and old temple tunnels, the Dead Sea, the Golan and the ancient mystical city of Tzfat. A five day sea to sea hike from the coastal resort of Achziv ending at the Kinneret will allow participants to see Israel as never before. Exciting activities on offer include rafting, jeeping, hiking through the desert, barbecues on the beach and plenty of free time to socialise. Mini Gap participants will also hear a range of lectures and discussions about the major issues Jews face today with everyone encouraged to share their views and opinions.

Other highlights of the 10 week experience include sampling sampling life on a kibbutz and spending time on social action projects including working at an archaeological dig, volunteering at a centre for children with disabilities and teaching English to underprivileged Israeli students.

Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Director of Tribe said;

“Mini Gap is a phenomenal opportunity for our young people who are not able to take a full gap year to partake in a 10 week inspirational, uplifting and unforgettable Jewish experience that will stay with the students far beyond the summer.”
