REDEVELOPMENT OF EALING SYNAGOGUE GETS UNDER WAY
Extensive renovation work has commenced at Ealing United Synagogue where the Community Centre building is undergoing a broad redevelopment to provide a modern Jewish synagogue and centre that suits the needs of the current community.
The new development will also include a modernised function hall with movable partitions, which will allow the capacity for the prayer services to be significantly increased. Another crucial addition is the easy access entrances and a special reserved area in the shul for the disabled and infirm. There will also be newly furnished offices for the Rabbi and Administrator, meeting rooms and kitchen.
To preserve some of the original ambience in the new complex where practical, the original stained glass windows are being transferred and housed in light boxes mounted on the walls.
Dawn Freedman, Co-Chair of the Ealing Steering Committee said:
“What is particularly pleasing is that the community is enthusiastically behind the project with the membership well represented on the steering committee so that everyone’s wishes and needs are taken into account. The aim was to recreate the Shul we all loved but in a better environment for worship and thanks to our architects we are achieving that.”
