PROJECT CHESED AND KISHARON ILLUMINATE THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS

With Chanukah upon us, a recently launched silver cleaning programme initiated by the United Synagogue’s Project Chesed together with Kisharon has switched its focus to bringing about the restoration of the sparkle and shine to the Menorot of many US Synagogues.

Just as Chanukah commemorates the miracle of the light that managed to last for eight days, so too the silver cleaning project is attempting to bring light to US communities in the form of beautifully clean and bright Menorot.

The wonderful results come from the excellent training and support provided to adults with special needs by Kisharon. The ultimate goal is the development of their members’ skills and independence to the point where they are comfortable and able to find their place within society.

Project Chesed’s silver cleaning programme is playing an important part by opening the doors of US synagogues to the Kisharon groups who have thrived with the responsibility of the Judaica cleaning project.

Rabbi Shlomo Weltman, Employment Manager at Kisharon commended the success of the ongoing project: “The people we support have thoroughly enjoyed visiting a range of different shuls polishing their silver. They have taken great pride in their important work and are happy to be able to make a significant contribution to the wider community. We thank Project Chesed and the United Synagogue for facilitating this project.”

Members of Finchley and Northwood United Synagogues which are involved in the Project Chesed silver cleaning project were amazed by the thoroughness and dedication of the Kisharon silver cleaning teams.

Commenting on the project, Rabbi Mirvis of Finchley Synagogue said: “This project is really wonderful and the silver that was polished last week was hugely appreciated in Shul on Shabbat.”
